Thanks to ArtLab21 and Jim Reid, I was lucky enough to be one of twelve artists invited to Bonn, Germany to create a series of screenprints with the master, Jim Reid. The experience was a memorable one. The artists were brought in from around the world for two weeks of education, collaboration, creation and co-habitation.
In case you are not familiar, Jim has created editions with nearly every significant contemporary artist of the past 35 years, including Rauschenberg, Johns, Kelly, and Rosenquist to name just a few. Check out www.geminigel.com to see the entire volume of work.
After learning the tricks of the trade, hearing of the artists' practices and edition concepts, and powering through enough booze to kill all heard of Elephants, my concept started to evolve into a complex collage of photography I shot in Budapest on a previous journey and textual and painterly components developed in Bonn. Fortunately, they were too complex and I left the collaboration emptied handed. This led to, due to the generosity of Jim and Gemini G.E.L., me finishing the edition production in the legendary Los Angeles Studio of Gemini G.E.L..
