gathering interest (which features my utilitarian homeware) is live! Over the years, I’ve explored the delicate interplay between humanity and nature and with gathering interest, this philosophy takes a new tangible form, crafting pieces that embody the convergence of art, utility, and environmental consciousness. The site features my new ceramics, furniture and clothing.
In the ceramic series, entitled Prototypes. I’ve found much joy in translating the painting practice to the standardized circular forms, maintaining a feeling of movement and unpredictability. It’s also a special treat to open the kiln and see how the wide variety of glazes have interacted with each other.
I also went back to the clothing skills I developed in the creation of the Free Republic agitprop line and took it a step further, embracing unique pieces, adding new manners of screen layering and hand-stitching elements to the works. These are in incredibly small volumes as I only have two hands. The underlying concept revolves around the thought that we are continually wrangling interest in the natural environment.
Lastly, after years of starring at Judd, McCobb, Knoll, van der Rohe and innumerable others, I decided to give bespoke furniture a shot, for my own use and for limited distribution. The pieces have clean lines and embrace the standardized forms of building materials, the beds are hand finished maple plywood and the tables are cinder blocks and porcelain or stone slabs. I’m also using them all in my studio, getting the most out of the prototypes while gathering interest in their existence.
